Balochistan National Party (Awami) Condemns Police Brutality Against Protesters in Quetta

KHUZDAR:The Balochistan National Party (Awami) has strongly condemned the police’s violent crackdown on peaceful protesters in Quetta, including the arrest of Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, a prominent leader of the Baloch Unity Committee, and the families of missing persons. The statement, issued by the central leadership of the party, including former federal minister Mir Israrullah Khan Zehri, described the police’s use of force, including baton charging, shelling, and physical assault, as a gross violation of democratic principles and a symbol of authoritarian governance.

The statement emphasized that peaceful protests are a constitutional and democratic right of the people, but the ruling government is using excessive force to suppress public dissent, which is unacceptable. The spokesperson highlighted that the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan has become a serious humanitarian crisis, with the families of missing persons protesting on the streets. However, instead of addressing their grievances, the government is further alienating them, intensifying their suffering through violence and repression.

The party’s statement further stated that the government’s policy of using force and violence to silence protesters is increasing public frustration and mistrust, which not only goes against democratic norms but also risks exacerbating instability in the region.

Mir Israrullah Khan Zehri, the party’s leader, stated that the arrests of Dr. Mah Rang Baloch and other activists reflect the government’s insecurity and authoritarian tendencies. He condemned these arrests as unconstitutional, undemocratic, and a blatant violation of basic human rights. He stressed that instead of addressing the people’s issues, the government is infringing upon their democratic rights through oppression, which is a dangerous path.

The statement continued, pointing out that the use of force against peaceful protesters and the brutal treatment of family members is a clear sign of the government’s failure and weakness. Zehri reiterated that history has shown that using violence to suppress public movements always leads to failure. He urged the government to choose the path of dialogue and resolve the issues of the people in a political and democratic manner.

If the government continues its oppressive policies, the statement warned, it will lead to dangerous consequences, for which the rulers will be solely responsible. The spokesperson concluded by emphasizing that the people of Balochistan will not be intimidated by any governmental repression and will continue their struggle for their rights. The Balochistan National Party (Awami) stands firmly with the people in their fight for justice at every level.
