Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Journey Ends After New Zealand’s Win Over Bangladesh

New Zealand’s victory over Bangladesh in the group stage has ended Pakistan’s journey in the Champions Trophy, eliminating them from the race to the semifinals. After Pakistan’s defeat to India yesterday, the hopes of advancing to the next round had already dwindled. If New Zealand had lost to Bangladesh today, there might have been a slim chance for Pakistan to qualify, but with the current result, the situation is now clear.
For Pakistan to make it to the next round, it was essential that New Zealand lose both of their matches, alongside Pakistan needing a big-margin victory against Bangladesh on February 27 in Rawalpindi. However, with New Zealand’s win, the scenario is now concluded.
Pakistan will play its final group match against Bangladesh on February 27 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, but this will only be a formality since both teams have failed to qualify for the next stage. India and New Zealand have secured their spots in the semifinals from Group A.
It’s worth noting that Pakistan had lost their opening match in the Champions Trophy to New Zealand and faced another defeat yesterday against India. Pakistan had previously won the Champions Trophy in 2017 under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed.
