Major Progress in $6.7 Billion ML-1 Railway Project as Chinese Experts Set to Visit Pakistan

Islamabad:After a decision by the federal cabinet, significant progress has been made on the $6.7 billion Karachi to Peshawar railway upgradation project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), paving the way for the commencement of work on the project.

A delegation of Chinese experts will visit Pakistan at the end of this month to finalize the financial plan for the ML-1 project. Following the bidding process, work on the project will begin immediately.

The federal cabinet had approved negotiations for financial assurances on the first phase of the ML-1 project in August 2024. According to government sources, China is expected to provide 85% of the funding, amounting to $5.7 billion, for the ML-1 project.
