US Imposes New Sanctions on Indian and Turkish Companies Over Alleged Links to Iran

WASHINGTON: The United States has imposed new sanctions on individuals and companies based in India and Türkiye over their alleged links to Iran.

The US has sanctioned Indian-based Sunil Kumar Sharma and his wife, Jaspreet Preeti, along with nine entities linked to Sharma.

Washington has also accused the couple of facilitating Iran’s covert oil tanker network through fraudulent activities.

According to the US Department of the Treasury, the network provided fake flags and certificates to vessels transporting Iranian oil to help them evade international restrictions.

In a separate move, the United States also imposed sanctions on a Turkish company over its alleged support for Iran’s aviation sector.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would continue imposing sanctions on those who provide ongoing support to the Iranian government.
