FBR Receives Complaint Alleging Tax Evasion Against Fazlur Rehman’s Family Members and Associates

ISLAMABAD: A formal complaint has been submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), alleging tax evasion and concealment of income by family members and close associates of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

According to media reports, the complaint names five individuals, including Senator Kamran Murtaza, Lutfur Rehman, Ziaur Rehman, Asad Mahmood and Abrar Ahmed Khan. It calls for a comprehensive and impartial examination of their assets, bank accounts and sources of income.

The complaint reportedly seeks an investigation into alleged suspicious financial transactions in Senator Kamran Murtaza’s bank accounts held in both local and foreign currencies. It also requests scrutiny of Lutfur Rehman’s accounts with various commercial banks and his business activities under applicable tax laws.

Regarding JUI-F leader Ziaur Rehman, the complaint alleges that unexplained and suspicious amounts are held in several of his bank accounts and calls for a transparent investigation.

It also seeks an examination of the bank accounts of former federal minister Asad Mahmood to determine whether any tax evasion has occurred.

Similarly, the complainant has called for an investigation into Abrar Ahmed Khan’s bank accounts, travel and tourism business, and all related financial transactions.

The complainant has urged the FBR not to limit its inquiry to the personal bank accounts of the individuals concerned but also examine financial transactions and funds associated with various welfare, educational and business organisations.

The complaint further demands a comparison of the individuals’ declared assets, submitted tax returns and bank transactions to identify any allegedly concealed income or suspicious financial dealings.

It has urged the FBR to launch an immediate and impartial investigation and take strict legal action if any violations of tax laws are established.

The allegations contained in the complaint have not been independently verified.
