Saudi-Led Coalition Claims Interception of Houthi Missile Aimed at Madinah

RIYADH: The Saudi-led military coalition has claimed that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia towards the area of Madinah, averting a potential security threat.
According to a statement issued by the coalition spokesperson, the missile was fired towards the holy city by what the coalition described as the terrorist Houthi militia. However, Saudi Arabia’s advanced air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed it before it could reach its intended target.
The coalition strongly condemned the alleged attack, warning that all necessary measures would be taken to protect the Kingdom’s holy sites and civilians.
Meanwhile, security alerts were also issued in several parts of Saudi Arabia, including the southeastern governorate of Sharurah.

Saudi authorities said the National Early Warning Platform issued an emergency alert in Sharurah on Thursday over a possible threat. The Civil Defence Authority urged residents to remain calm and strictly follow safety instructions. The initial alert was withdrawn within minutes.
Shortly afterwards, a second warning was issued for the same governorate. However, following an assessment by the relevant authorities, the second alert was also cancelled within minutes, and the situation remained under control.
An emergency warning was also issued in Yanbu, an important industrial and commercial city on the Red Sea coast near Madinah.
Yanbu is considered a major oil export hub for Saudi Arabia and serves as a key point for transporting crude oil through the Kingdom’s East-West Pipeline.
Following the warning, relevant authorities intensified precautionary measures. However, the Civil Defence Authority soon reassured residents that the threat had passed and the situation in Yanbu was safe.
