Pakistan govt finalises winter gas supply plan amid LNG concerns

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive gas load-management plan for the upcoming winter and take advance measures to ensure uninterrupted gas imports.
Under the proposed strategy, domestic consumers will receive priority for locally produced gas, while RLNG will be prioritised for power generation and industrial sectors.
The government will also promote alternative energy sources for household heating.
As per a report, the authorities said they are taking measures to ensure uninterrupted gas transmission from northern reserves, while bank financing for electric appliances used for water and space heating is also under consideration.
For December-February, gas companies and the Petroleum Division have sought at least 22 LNG cargoes, while the energy task force is considering 10-12 cargoes on a best-effort basis amid regional supply challenges.
