28% Increase Announced in Daily Allowance for Frontline Polio Workers
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme has announced a 28 percent increase in the daily allowance for frontline polio workers.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the increase will take effect from the next nationwide polio vaccination campaign.
Over the past few months, listening sessions were held with frontline polio workers, providing them an opportunity to directly share their views, suggestions and concerns with senior leadership. Following these sessions, the decision was made to increase their daily allowance by 28 percent.
Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq said the increase was an acknowledgment of the hard work, dedication and services of polio workers. She said frontline workers were playing a vital role in efforts to make Pakistan polio-free.
She said the next polio vaccination campaign would be conducted across 115 districts of the country from September 21 to 27, during which more than 31 million children would be administered polio drops.
The Prime Minister’s Focal Person urged parents to fully cooperate with polio teams and ensure that every child under the age of five receives polio drops during the campaign to help completely eradicate the disease from Pakistan.
