Pakistan’s Total Debt Reaches Rs81 Trillion, Per Capita Liability Over Rs325,000

In Islamabad, Pakistan’s total public debt has reached a staggering Rs81 trillion, according to officials at a Senate Standing Committee on Economic Affairs meeting chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro.
The session, which reviewed both domestic and foreign debts including obligations to the IMF, revealed that Rs26 trillion of the total debt is external, while Rs55 trillion is domestic.
Officials calculated that for a population of 250 million, the per capita debt amounts to Rs325,000, indicating that every Pakistani now carries a liability exceeding this figure. The briefing highlighted the pressing economic challenges facing the country and the urgent need for fiscal management and debt restructuring.
