PTI Chief Calls for Punishment of Those Responsible for Delaying Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has called for punishment of anyone found guilty of contempt of court over the failure to transfer PTI founder Imran Khan to hospital.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Barrister Gohar said he had come to meet the Chief Justice but the meeting could not take place due to the Chief Justice’s engagements. He said he and Latif Khosa met the Supreme Court registrar, who assured them that a bench would be constituted to hear the matter. He added that the bench could also be formed online and expressed hope that the Supreme Court would schedule the hearing soon.
Barrister Gohar said Imran Khan does not make deals, adding that the PTI founder does not intend to stay in hospital for even a minute longer than necessary and only needs medical tests. “If he wanted to make a deal, he would not have spent three years in prison,” he said.
He rejected suggestions that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was acting as anyone’s personal associate, saying the chief minister is the elected chief executive of more than 40 million people. He said Afridi was chosen by Imran Khan and supported by PTI.
The PTI chairman said Imran Khan should be transferred to hospital and undergo the required medical tests, describing access to appropriate medical care as his constitutional right.
Barrister Gohar said the Supreme Court’s order was clear that a medical board would be constituted, with Imran Khan’s sister also included in the process. He maintained that the court order remains enforceable and the authorities can still transfer the PTI founder to hospital.
He urged the authorities to take the health of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, seriously.
Barrister Gohar also defended Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s remarks regarding Imran Khan’s health, saying the statement was correct. He alleged that attention was being diverted from the main issue by focusing on one sentence from the chief minister’s remarks.
“We are popular because of the founder of PTI,” Barrister Gohar said, adding that the central issue remained ensuring proper medical care and compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders.
