Three Orphaned Punjab Leopard Cubs Successfully Raised on Artificial Milk at Lahore Safari Park

**Lahore (Qudrat News)** – A hopeful conservation story has emerged from Lahore Safari Park, where three orphaned cubs of the rare **Punjab leopard** (Urial) have been successfully raised on **artificial milk** after being rescued from wildlife smugglers.
The cubs were recovered a few months ago in Jhelum, where an individual was attempting to smuggle them illegally. Authorities arrested the suspect, and the young cubs were transferred to the **Safari Park Wildlife Hospital**, where specialized care, treatment, and feeding arrangements were made.
Upon arrival, the cubs were weak and frightened. Wildlife experts replaced mother’s milk with **hand-fed artificial milk**, monitored their health round-the-clock, checked their weight regularly, and ensured their medical needs were met meticulously.
Dr. **Mohammad Rizwan Khan**, Director of the Wildlife Hospital, stated that the **Salt Range** in Punjab is the natural habitat of Urials, but poachers often target cubs during the breeding season for sale or smuggling. “In the past, hand-feeding cubs separated from their mothers often resulted in digestive problems and high mortality,” he added.
Veterinary specialist Dr. **Abdul Rehman** explained that the cubs were provided a specially formulated diet, including **Total Mixed Ration (TMR)**, ensuring a balanced intake of essential nutrients. Regular tests of their blood and feces were conducted to detect parasites and other diseases promptly.
Caretakers noted that the staff treated the cubs like their own children, carefully monitoring their feeding and growth. Today, the healthy cubs run and play energetically, reflecting the success of human intervention in their survival.
This marks the **first time Punjab leopard cubs have been successfully raised on artificial milk using scientific methods**, a significant milestone in wildlife conservation that highlights the compassionate partnership between humans and nature.
