Weekly Inflation Rises Further, Annual Rate Reaches 9.66%

ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.49 percent, pushing the overall annual inflation rate to 9.66 percent, according to the latest report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The report showed that prices of 23 essential commodities increased during the week under review, while 10 items became cheaper and prices of 18 essential commodities remained unchanged.

According to the data, petrol prices increased by 3.77 percent during the week, contributing to the overall rise in inflation. Onion prices rose by 14.17 percent, while chicken became 3.35 percent more expensive.

Prices of other essential commodities, including gram pulse, garlic and tea, also increased during the period, putting additional pressure on household budgets.

Meanwhile, prices of several essential items declined. Eggs became 5.78 percent cheaper during the week, while diesel prices fell by 5.15 percent.

The PBS report also recorded a 4.99 percent decline in tomato prices and a 1.17 percent decrease in potato prices. Prices of sugar, LPG and bananas also declined.

The latest figures show that although prices of some essential commodities declined, increases in petrol, onions, chicken and several other basic items pushed overall inflation higher.

The rise in weekly inflation is likely to further increase pressure on household spending, particularly for families whose budgets are heavily dependent on food and fuel expenses.
