Khawaja Asif Says Refugee Seats Are Being Politicized

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the issue of refugee seats is being used for political purposes, while also responding to criticism from political opponents.

Speaking on a television program hosted by Shahzeb Khanzada, Khawaja Asif said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has every right to express his views and criticism.

“Bilawal Bhutto can say whatever he wants; it is his right. I welcome his criticism, but I stand by my own point of view,” the defence minister stated.

Khawaja Asif further claimed that refugee seats are becoming a subject of political maneuvering and added that some politicians are disrespecting those who made sacrifices during times of conflict because of electoral considerations in Kashmir.

Commenting on internal party discipline, he remarked that if his party were to instruct him to remain silent, he would comply with that decision.

The minister also referred to efforts aimed at resolving political issues and said that it is up to the government to decide whether solutions can be found under the leadership of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

His remarks come amid ongoing political debate over representation, electoral matters, and broader national issues.
