Balochistan Announces Major Administrative Reorganization, Quetta Split into Two Districts

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has issued an official notification introducing a sweeping reorganization of the province’s administrative structure, creating new divisions, districts, sub-divisions, and tehsils while redrawing existing boundaries under the Balochistan Land Revenue Act, 1967.
According to the gazette notification issued on July 8, 2026, the reforms include the division of Quetta into two districts, the abolition of the Kalat Division, the creation of Khuzdar and Lasbela divisions, and several changes to district and tehsil boundaries across the province.
Quetta Divided into Two Districts
The existing Quetta District has been split into Quetta East and Quetta West, with the railway line serving as the boundary.
Quetta East will have its headquarters at the existing Deputy Commissioner’s Office and will include the Sadar, City, and Sariab sub-divisions.
Quetta West will be headquartered in Sariab at the Irrigation Department building and will comprise Kuchlak, Burori, and Panjpai. Burori has been upgraded to a sub-division and tehsil, while Panjpai has been designated as a new sub-division and sub-tehsil.
In another significant change, Mastung District has been transferred from the former Kalat Division to the Quetta Division.
Kalat Division Abolished
The government has officially abolished the Kalat Division, replacing it with two new administrative divisions:
Khuzdar Division, consisting of Khuzdar, Kalat, Sorab, and the newly created Wadh District.
Lasbela Division, headquartered in Uthal, comprising Lasbela, Hub, and Awaran districts.
Several new sub-divisions and tehsils have also been established in Khuzdar, while Wadh has been granted district status. The district previously named Shaheed Sikandarabad has been renamed Sorab.
Changes Across Other Divisions
The notification also introduces several administrative changes across the province:
A new Toba Kakari sub-division and tehsil has been established in Pishin District, while Breshore has been upgraded to a full tehsil.
In Makuran Division, the official English spelling has been changed from “Makran” to “Makuran.”
New sub-divisions have been created in Kech, Gwadar, Chagai, and Washuk districts.
The official English spelling of Sibi has been revised to “Sevi,” and the division will now officially be known as Sevi Division.
Kachhi District has been shifted from Nasirabad Division to Sevi Division.
Ziarat and Harnai districts have been transferred from Sevi Division to Loralai Division.
Several new tehsils and sub-divisions have also been established in Jaffarabad, Sohbatpur, Jhal Magsi, Sherani, Zhob, Kohlu, Barkhan, Musa Khel, and Dera Bugti districts.
Government’s Statement
The notification, issued by the Revenue Department on the instructions of the Governor of Balochistan, states that the Board of Revenue will have the authority to make necessary boundary adjustments after verification, provided such amendments remain consistent with decisions approved by the provincial cabinet.
The provincial government says the restructuring is intended to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen local governance, and facilitate the delivery of public services across Balochistan.
