Balochistan High Court Seeks Progress Report on Quetta Development Projects

Quetta: The Balochistan High Court has sought a progress report on several major development projects in Quetta during a hearing of a constitutional petition. The case was heard by a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mullahkhel.
During the hearing, the court was informed that construction and rehabilitation work at Amdad Chowk and adjoining roads is underway under the Chief Minister’s development package for Quetta. According to the report submitted, the Gahi Khan Chowk Flyover is about 98 percent complete, while construction work on the Custom Flyover has reached 4 percent progress.
However, the court noted that construction work had been affected due to issues involving local landowners and directed the Deputy Commissioner Quetta to resolve the matter immediately.
The court also ordered authorities to ensure the completion of the Sariab Road Service Corridor and submit a progress report at the next hearing. Additionally, approval was granted to convert the Alamo Chowk Flyover from a one-way bridge into a double-way structure, with feasibility and design work currently in progress. Authorities were directed to accelerate the approval and completion process for the project.
Furthermore, the court ordered that restrictions on commercial activities and new constructions along newly built roads from Hockey Chowk to Sariab Railway Crossing on Zarghoon Road remain in place. The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Quetta were instructed to ensure strict implementation of the court’s orders.
According to Sui Southern Gas Company, issues related to the relocation of gas pipelines have been resolved. The court appreciated the efforts of government officials, the Additional Advocate General, and petitioner Syed Nazir Agha.
The hearing was adjourned until March 12, 2026, with directions issued to send the court order to the Advocate General’s Office.
