400 LPG Tankers Stranded at Taftan Border to Be Escorted Under Pakistan Army Security

QUETTA: Authorities have decided to dispatch nearly 400 LPG tankers that have been stranded for several days at the border town of Taftan in Balochistan under special security arrangements provided by the Pakistan Army.
According to officials, the tankers had been unable to move due to security concerns, law-and-order issues, and recent threats along major highways, particularly the Quetta–Taftan N-40 route. In the first phase, approximately 400 LPG tankers will travel in organized convoys from Taftan to Quetta under military protection before continuing to various parts of the country.
District administration and security agencies have accelerated the clearance process, while transporters and drivers have been instructed to ensure that their vehicles and documentation are fully prepared to avoid any delays in departure.
Sources said that hundreds of LPG tankers arriving from Iran had been stranded at the Taftan border, disrupting LPG supplies across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. The supply disruption has reportedly led to gas shortages in several cities and contributed to rising LPG prices.
The shortage has also affected industrial operations, with reports indicating that production activities at some factories have been disrupted due to limited gas availability.
The President of the Balochistan LPG Dealers Association stated that if the stranded tankers had not been cleared for movement in time, the country could have faced a more severe LPG crisis, negatively impacting industrial and commercial activities.
Relevant authorities said that all institutions are coordinating closely to ensure the safe movement of the convoys. Additional security measures will be implemented at sensitive points along the route, and more convoys may be organized if necessary to gradually transport all stranded LPG tankers from the Taftan border safely to their destinations.
