LDA Decides to End File Trading in Private Housing Schemes from July 1

Islamabad – The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to abolish the buying and selling of files in private housing schemes as part of efforts to improve transparency and regulate property transactions.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq with representatives of various housing schemes.
According to the new policy, the sale and purchase of files within the jurisdiction of the LDA will be completely banned from July 1. Private housing schemes have been directed to transfer their records to the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) software system by June 30.
Under the revised mechanism, all property transactions will be conducted only through officially verified property certificates issued via the PLRA system.
Speaking at the meeting, Tahir Farooq said an awareness campaign would be launched to inform citizens about the new procedures and facilitate a smooth transition.
He added that private housing schemes will be able to issue green certificates and registration documents through a digital portal. Property certificates will also carry QR codes, allowing buyers and authorities to access ownership and property information instantly with a single click.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing transparency, reducing fraud, and ensuring secure and documented real estate transactions across private housing schemes operating within LDA limits.
