Moon to Appear Directly Above the Kaaba Tonight, Says Astronomical Society Chief

Lahore : Astronomers have announced that the Ramadan moon will appear directly above the Kaaba tonight in a rare and spiritually significant celestial event.

According to the head of the Astronomical Society, the phenomenon will be visible at 10:40 PM Saudi Standard Time. At that precise moment, the Moon will align vertically above the Kaaba in Makkah, creating a striking visual alignment.

Experts said that on Saturday, February 28, 2026, approximately 87 to 89 percent of the Moon’s surface will be illuminated. The Moon’s age will range between 11.3 and 11.6 days, placing it near the midpoint of its 29.5-day lunar cycle after the new moon phase.

Astronomers explained that during this specific alignment, people anywhere in the world can determine the direction of the Qibla by identifying the Moon’s position at the stated time, as it will be directly above the Kaaba. This celestial arrangement offers a simple and effective way to verify the correct direction of prayer.

They added that due to the Moon being nearly 89 percent illuminated, prominent craters and other lunar surface features will be clearly visible through binoculars or a telescope.

Such astronomical alignments occur for a limited time and visibility depends on local weather conditions. Citizens are encouraged to observe the event from open areas at the specified time for the best view.
