Qatari LNG Carrier “Fuwairit” Enters Pakistani Waters via Strait of Hormuz Amid Supply Push

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fragile energy supply chain received a fresh boost as the Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Fuwairit successfully crossed the sensitive Strait of Hormuz and entered Pakistani maritime waters, officials said on Tuesday.
The vessel is expected to berth at the Engro LNG Terminal on either May 26 or May 27, 2026, according to energy sector sources.
Senior officials in Pakistan’s Petroleum Division confirmed that another LNG vessel is also scheduled to arrive within the coming days, which will dock at the Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited (PGPL) terminal.
The development highlights Islamabad’s efforts to secure uninterrupted fuel supplies during peak summer demand, especially amid regional tensions in the Gulf and concerns over maritime security routes.
The arrival of the *Fuwairit* marks the third LNG shipment from Qatar in less than two weeks. Earlier, the LNG carrier *Mehjam* delivered around 160,000 cubic meters of gas to Port Qasim’s PGPL terminal on May 15, while the Q-Flex vessel *Al Kharaitiyat* berthed at the Engro terminal on May 13.
Energy officials say the steady flow of LNG shipments underscores Pakistan’s growing reliance on long-term contracts with Qatar, particularly as global spot market prices fluctuate due to geopolitical uncertainty, shipping risks, and heightened tensions around key maritime chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz.
