Flour Prices Surge Across Pakistan, 20kg Bag Reaches Rs2,500 in Karachi

Karachi: A sharp and sudden increase in flour prices has put significant financial strain on citizens, with the cost of a 20kg bag rising by up to Rs200 in just one week across various cities.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Karachi residents are facing the highest prices in the country, where a 20kg flour bag has reached up to Rs2,500.
The report highlights that prices increased by Rs200 in Hyderabad and Larkana, Rs190 in Sargodha, Rs160 in Sukkur, Rs133 in Multan, and around Rs100 in Karachi and Khuzdar. Meanwhile, Quetta saw an increase of Rs90, Gujranwala Rs66, Islamabad Rs67, and Rawalpindi Rs40.
Despite the surge, Lahore remains the city with the lowest flour prices, where a 20kg bag is available at approximately Rs1,810. Other cities reported high prices as well, including Quetta at Rs2,450, Hyderabad Rs2,440, Islamabad Rs2,373, Peshawar Rs2,350, and Bannu and Khuzdar at Rs2,300.
In Rawalpindi, the price stands at Rs2,347, Faisalabad at Rs2,250, while Sukkur and Larkana report prices around Rs2,200. Gujranwala, Multan, and Sialkot have prices near Rs2,133, Bahawalpur at Rs2,067, and Sargodha at Rs2,000.
The steep rise in flour prices, a staple food item, has triggered public concern, particularly among low- and middle-income groups. Citizens have questioned the effectiveness of government price control mechanisms and called for immediate measures to curb inflation and provide relief.
