Pakistan Emerges as Key Regional Trade Hub as First Transit Cargo from Kyrgyzstan Arrives via China

ISLAMABAD: In a significant milestone for regional trade connectivity, the first commercial shipment under a transit agreement facilitated by a partner company of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) has arrived in Pakistan from Kyrgyzstan via China.
According to officials, the development reflects the growing effectiveness of NLC’s logistics strategy and expanding regional trade linkages, which are now yielding tangible results. Through improved operational coordination, several regional countries have increasingly begun using the Khunjerab Pass and Sost Dry Port as a reliable trade corridor.
Under the new transit route, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are expected to gain direct access to Karachi Port, significantly improving trade efficiency for landlocked Central Asian states. Pakistan is increasingly being viewed as a fast, secure, and dependable trade route for the region.
Since 2024, NLC has been successfully facilitating cargo movement from Karachi to various cities in Kyrgyzstan under the modern TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) system, ensuring streamlined cross-border logistics.

Experts note that enhanced connectivity under this initiative is strengthening regional trade flows and reducing transit delays. Some reports also suggest a shifting regional transit dynamic due to improved direct routing; however, official statements emphasize broader connectivity benefits for all participating countries.
Sost Dry Port, remaining operational throughout the year, continues to play a crucial role in maintaining continuity and stability in trade between China and Central Asia through Pakistan.
