Contaminated Water in Astore Sends Nearly 1,000 People to Hospitals

GILGIT-BALTISTAN: Around **1,000 people** in the Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan have been hospitalized after consuming contaminated water, officials confirmed.
According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Owais Abbasi, patients are being treated at the **District Headquarters Hospital Astore, Eidgah, Gorikot**, and several other medical facilities. Over the past six days, nearly a thousand individuals have sought treatment, with a large number of **children, women, and elderly** among the affected.
Due to the overwhelming number of patients, temporary medical camps have also been set up across the district.
Authorities revealed that leakage in the **Rama water supply line** led to contamination at several points, polluting the water being supplied to six urban areas, including the district headquarters.
Health teams are working on emergency measures while efforts are underway to repair the water supply system and ensure safe drinking water for residents.
