Security Situation Deteriorates in Balochistan; Dozens Killed in Series of Violent Incidents
Quetta: The security situation in Balochistan has taken a serious turn following a wave of violent incidents across multiple districts over the past several days, leaving around 50 people dead, including security personnel, tribal elders, and civilians.
According to reports, the incidents include targeted killings, armed attacks, bomb blasts, and other violent clashes, raising concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation. Authorities say the weakening writ of the state has created fear and panic among residents, while political and social leaders are urging the government to take immediate action.
In the provincial capital Quetta, several attacks were reported in areas including Kasi Road, Airport Road, and Qambrani Road, where tribal leader Haji Muhammad Sharif Zirkari was among those targeted. In another incident on Sariab Road outside the Sessions Court, three people were killed in broad daylight, reportedly linked to a land dispute.
Separately, two vegetable vendors were shot dead in firing at the Hazar Ganji vegetable market.
Security forces have also come under attack. In Gwadar, three personnel of the Pakistan Coast Guards were martyred while on duty. In Dera Murad Jamali, a police officer deployed for polio team security was also killed in firing.
In another incident, two attackers were killed when security forces responded to an attempted assault on an Frontier Corps checkpoint near Kachlak Bypass.
Elsewhere, bodies of three individuals were recovered from Kharan, Meekhtar, and Gandawah, with reports suggesting they were abducted and later killed. Additional incidents included the killing of a landowner during an attempted vehicle theft in Dera Murad Jamali, and the targeted killings of tribal figures in Kohlu and Dera Bugti.
Separately, three workers died after toxic gas filled a coal mine in Mach Bolan, while three others lost their lives in a road accident in Quetta due to speeding.
Authorities are continuing investigations as concerns grow over escalating violence and instability across the province.
