Pakistan and Egypt Facilitate Communications Between US and Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Islamabad: According to foreign media reports, Pakistan and Egypt are playing a key role in maintaining communications between United States and Iran, with Turkey also reportedly involved.
CNN cited Pakistani government sources, stating that “Pakistan and Egypt are among the countries acting as intermediaries between US and Iranian officials.” This development comes as former US President Donald Trump issued a new deadline to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning of potential US targeting of Iranian energy facilities if compliance is not met.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke via telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for efforts to reduce regional tensions and stressing the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to Al Jazeera, Trump made conflicting statements over the weekend, simultaneously threatening to seize Iranian oil and “destroy everything,” while also indicating that the US would allow negotiations with Iran. He confirmed that his close advisers, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, are in direct contact with Iranian negotiators.
Reports suggest that Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are acting as mediators in the discussions, though communication is also taking place directly through Kushner and Witkoff to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. While these developments have not been independently verified, Trump emphasized that his senior advisers are actively engaged in talks with Iranian representatives.
