Longest and Shortest Fasts Around the World During Ramadan

Islamabad: With the start of Ramadan, fasting schedules have been set globally, showing significant variations in duration across different regions.

In Pakistan, this year’s fasts are expected to last approximately 12.5 to 14 hours, with minor differences depending on local moon sighting and geographical location. Experts note that countries at higher latitudes experience longer daylight hours, extending fasting durations to 14–16 hours.

Globally, the longest fasts will occur in Finland and Iceland, where Muslims may fast for nearly 19 to 20 hours. In contrast, the shortest fasts will be observed in Chile, Argentina, and New Zealand, where fasting will last around 12 hours.

In the Middle East, Europe, and North America, average fasting times are expected to range between 12 to 13 hours. Experts explained that variations in fasting duration depend on local geographical factors and the timing of the moon sighting.
