PM Shehbaz Announces Rs129 Billion Relief to Keep Fuel Prices Stable, Orders Crackdown on Smuggling

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a relief package worth Rs129 billion to maintain stability in petroleum product prices and protect low-income المواطنين from rising inflation.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the prime minister reviewed measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products, strengthen the supply chain, and implement austerity policies. He directed relevant ministries to finalize proposals in consultation with provinces to provide immediate relief to the public.
Shehbaz Sharif also ordered strict action against those involved in smuggling and illegal hoarding of petroleum products, emphasizing that such elements would be dealt with firmly under the law.
He stated that the federal government has already taken significant steps over the past three weeks to ease the financial burden on low-income groups, adding that the relief—funded through cuts in the development budget and austerity measures—aims to shield citizens from the impact of global oil price pressures.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction that sufficient petroleum reserves are available in the country to meet demand. Officials informed the meeting that a 24/7 digital dashboard is being used to monitor supply and demand across the petroleum supply chain to prevent shortages.
The meeting was attended by several federal ministers and senior officials, who were briefed on ongoing efforts to ensure transparency, efficiency, and stability in the energy sector.
