Pope Leo Appeals for Ceasefire, Says “God Does Not Listen to the Prayers of Those Who Wage War”

Vatican City: Catholic leader Pope Leo condemned the use of religion to justify war, calling for peace and dialogue during his Palm Sunday address at St. Peter’s Square.

Speaking to the gathered faithful, Pope Leo said that those who wage war cannot expect their prayers to be heard by God. He urged all parties involved in conflicts to observe an immediate ceasefire and pursue negotiations to resolve differences peacefully.

Arab media reports highlighted that leaders involved in the ongoing Iran conflict have attempted to justify military actions in the name of religion. Similarly, US Secretary of Defense Pat Hegseth framed the Iran conflict as a struggle against enemies of Christians, further fueling concerns over the religious rhetoric surrounding the war.

The Pope’s message emphasizes the need to separate faith from armed conflict and underscores the moral responsibility of leaders to seek peaceful solutions.
