Jamaat-e-Islami Leader Blames Authorities for Rain-Related Losses in Balochistan

Quetta: Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch, a senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in Balochistan, has criticized the government and relevant institutions for failing to take timely measures to prevent deaths, damages, and public hardship during the ongoing rains.

In a statement, Baloch said that recurring problems such as power and gas outages, internet disruptions, and blocked drainage systems have turned even moderate rainfall into a serious crisis for residents. He highlighted that main roads and streets in various cities are flooded, while poor drainage has worsened the situation.

He accused authorities of making repeated claims and allocating large budgets every year before the rainy season, but failing to implement practical measures. “Despite spending millions, citizens suffer after every rainfall, while officials rely on empty statements,” he said.

Baloch further pointed out that drainage systems have become ineffective, with little to no cleaning of streams and nullahs, and no visible emergency response planning. He urged institutions such as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administration to become more active in addressing the situation.

Calling the loss of lives and public suffering a clear sign of governance failure, he stressed that proper planning and timely action could significantly reduce damages. He demanded immediate steps to improve drainage systems, provide relief to affected areas, and develop a long-term strategy to prevent future crises.

He also reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue to stand with the public and warned that failure by the government to fulfill its responsibilities could lead to public backlash.
