Key Meeting Held on Gwadar’s New Town Housing Scheme: Development Projects and Public Welfare Discussed

Gwadar:A significant meeting regarding the New Town Housing Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch. The meeting included a detailed briefing by Additional Deputy Commissioner General, Dr. Abdul Shakoor, who presented the current status and public concerns related to the scheme.

During the briefing, it was highlighted that the New Town Housing Scheme was launched in 1985 under the Government of Balochistan through the Local Government Department. Later, to ensure better oversight and efficiency, the district administration took the scheme under its supervision.

The scheme not only includes residential plots but also land allocated for essential urban infrastructure. These facilities include mosques, parks, a stadium, a community center, hostels, schools, government offices, a water tank, a municipal hall, Eidgah, a desalination plant for clean drinking water, and other necessary services.

Officials informed the meeting that the scheme’s allottees currently owe the government approximately Rs. 800 million. Authorities emphasized that the scheme is a **government project**, not a private one, and urged all line departments to play their role in ensuring the provision of basic public services.

It was also confirmed that 100% of the scheme’s records are fully secured. Furthermore, the meeting shed light on how the scheme is supporting public welfare initiatives, including the appointment of teachers in various educational institutions of Gwadar through the Endowment Fund, provision of free ambulance services, and assistance to the Jiwani Inter College.

In his concluding remarks, MPA Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch announced that multiple development projects related to education, health, electricity, water, and other basic facilities would be included in the upcoming Provincial Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the New Town Housing Scheme.

This meeting marks a step forward in strengthening Gwadar’s infrastructure and addressing public concerns through transparent governance and targeted development.
