Pakistan Tells UN That Terrorism From Afghanistan Is a Global Threat

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has warned that terrorism originating from Afghanistan poses a serious threat not only to Pakistan but to the entire world.
Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Afghanistan, he said that several terrorist groups are currently operating inside Afghanistan. According to him, organizations such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and other militant groups are planning attacks on Pakistan from Afghan territory.
He told the council that terrorists have carried out suicide attacks in various Pakistani cities, causing the deaths of innocent civilians.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also stated that on February 26, the Taliban launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistan. He said militants coming from Afghanistan have killed innocent Pakistanis.
He added that Pakistan responded by targeting enemy forces and terrorist hideouts. During the counter-terrorism operation, security forces also recovered foreign-made weapons.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for terrorist organizations. However, he said Pakistan wants a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
He further stated that the Afghan Taliban government was responsible for ushering in an era of peace but is violating the Doha Agreement. According to him, full implementation of the agreement is the only way forward.
