ATC Sentences 47 Fugitives to 10 Years in Jail in 9 May GHQ Attack Case

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced **47 fugitive accused** to **10 years in prison** each in connection with the **9 May attack on the GHQ**. The ruling also includes **fines of PKR 500,000 per convict** and orders for the confiscation of their properties.
The verdict was delivered by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who confirmed that the convicted individuals were involved in violent attacks at the **GHQ gate, Hamza Camp, and Army Museum**. The court noted that the **Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report** had identified these fugitives as central figures in planning the violent protests.
The accused were charged with arson, vandalism, assaults on police, and damaging government property on **9 May**. Initially, **118 accused** were charged in December 2024, including the founder of PTI and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Among those sentenced are:

* Murad Saeed
* Shibli Faraz
* Hammad Azhar
* Kanwal Shauzab
* Rashid Shafique
* Shehbaz Gill
* Zulfi Bukhari
* Muhammad Ahmed Chatha
* Rai Hasan Nawaz
* Rai Muhammad Murtaza
Additionally, Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Usman Saeed Basra, and Ijaz Khan Jazi were also sentenced to jail and fines.
The ATC highlighted that **44 witnesses’ statements** have been recorded so far. Among the 118 accused, **18 repeatedly failed to appear during the trial**, while **29 never appeared** after the case was filed.
The court conducted a separate trial under the **Anti-Terrorism Act** for the 47 fugitives after the prosecution filed a request for action on **6 January 2026**. A public notice against the fugitives was issued on **8 January 2026**, giving them **seven days to surrender**, but none appeared before the court.
