Singapore Woman Fined for Repeatedly Feeding Pigeons

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — A senior woman in Singapore has landed in legal trouble due to her habit of feeding wild pigeons, according to foreign media reports.

Seventy-one-year-old Sanmogamanathan Shimla was fined SGD 3,200 for repeatedly feeding wild pigeons, in violation of the country’s Wildlife Act. Reports said she pleaded guilty to four charges under the Act.

This was not the first time the woman faced legal action. She had previously been fined SGD 1,200 and had assured the court that she would not repeat the offense. However, prosecutors presented evidence showing that between July 2025 and January 2026, she fed pigeons grain and bread on nine separate occasions.

Video footage played in court showed the woman surrounded by flocks of birds near her apartment in the Toa Payoh area. The court was also informed that although she had expressed remorse during a meeting with her local Member of Parliament, she was found feeding birds again just three days later.

The prosecution described her actions as a continuous violation of the law and argued that a strict fine was necessary as a deterrent. The woman told the court that she was unemployed and did not have medical insurance, but assured authorities that she would pay the fine immediately.

Media reports noted that repeated violations could have resulted in a fine exceeding SGD 10,000.
