40 Missing After Boat Capsizes in Nigeria’s Sokoto State

Abuja:** At least 40 people are missing after a passenger boat capsized in Nigeria’s Sokoto State, according to international media reports.
The boat was reportedly transporting passengers to the popular Goronyo market when it overturned. Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that 50 people were on board at the time of the incident.
Rescue teams have managed to save 10 individuals, while search efforts are underway to locate the remaining 40 missing passengers.
Local media suggest that overloading may have caused the accident, though officials have yet to confirm the exact cause.
Boat accidents are not uncommon in Nigeria due to poor safety regulations and overloading. Just last month, a similar tragedy occurred in Niger State, where at least 13 people died and dozens went missing after another boat capsized.
