Family of Gul Plaza Missing Victim Hit by Theft Amid Ongoing Tragedy in Karachi

The family of Asif, who went missing in the Gul Plaza tragedy, has fallen victim to a burglary, further compounding their grief and hardship. A video statement released by the affected family highlights their distress and alleges administrative negligence.

According to the family, Asif has been missing since the Gul Plaza incident, and despite the passage of seven days, he has not returned home. During this period, the family remained busy searching for him, visiting the Deputy Commissioner’s office and morgues in an attempt to obtain information about his whereabouts.

They said that during their absence, unidentified thieves broke into their house and fled with the family’s savings and gold jewelry. Following the incident, the family approached Garden Police Station; however, they claim that no effective response has been received from the police even after three days.

The family expressed anguish, stating that while they are already struggling to locate their missing loved one, the theft has added severe mental and financial pressure.

It is pertinent to note that following the Gul Plaza tragedy, several individuals remain missing, while many families are still awaiting identification of bodies recovered from the site. The latest incident has intensified the suffering of the affected families and raised serious questions over administrative attention and timely action.

Rescue operations at Gul Plaza continue for the seventh consecutive day. So far, 71 deaths have been confirmed, while 77 people are still reported missing. Authorities have identified 22 victims through DNA testing. Meanwhile, the Director of Rescue 1122 has expressed concern that bodies may still be present on the ground floor of the building.

The recovery of gold, safes and cash from the debris has been ongoing for the past seven days. Located on Karachi’s busy MA Jinnah Road, the fire incident at Gul Plaza is nearing one week, yet human remains continue to be recovered. Senior Fire Officer Zafar Khan stated that at this stage, mostly bones are being found rather than intact bodies.
