Snowfall and Rain Forecasted Across Northern and Western Pakistan, Meteorology Department Issues Warning

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in northern and western parts of the country over the weekend.

According to the department, a weak western weather system is expected to enter western Pakistan on the night of December 12. Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with snowfall expected in higher altitude areas.

Areas expected to experience rain and snowfall include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. This weather system is predicted to continue intermittently from December 13 to 15.

Additionally, light rain or thunderstorms are forecasted on December 14 or 15 in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Sherani, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, and Nushki.

In the Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Potohar regions, light drizzles are expected, while Murree and the Galiyat areas may see light rain and snowfall.

The Meteorological Department has also warned that from December 12 to 16, moderate to dense fog may persist in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, potentially reducing visibility.

Another western weather system is forecasted to affect the western and northern regions of Pakistan starting December 19. Earlier reports in October had warned of the possibility of Pakistan experiencing one of its harshest winters in decades, particularly impacting the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan due to unusually low Pacific Ocean temperatures affecting global weather patterns.
