Gul Plaza Rescue Operation 70% Complete, No More Bodies Found So Far: Mayor Karachi

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has said that around two-thirds of the fire-hit Gul Plaza building has been cleared and no additional bodies have been recovered so far, while the process of identifying the deceased is still underway.
Talking to the media, the mayor stated that the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) is conducting a detailed structural assessment of the building. He said the final number of casualties and identified bodies would be shared by morning once the process is completed.
Murtaza Wahab said that rescue operations at Gul Plaza are nearly 70 percent complete, with the ground, first, and second floors already cleared. He added that authorities have received reports of 81 missing persons following the tragic fire.
The mayor emphasized the need for proper fire safety systems in commercial buildings to prevent such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, following the Gul Plaza fire, the SBCA has declared nearby **Rimpa Plaza** unsafe. According to the authority, notices have been issued to the plaza’s management and shop owners, stating that Rimpa Plaza’s pillars were affected due to debris from Gul Plaza. The use of the hazardous portion of Rimpa Plaza has been banned until further notice.
