Faulty Sewerage System Causes Severe Stench and Waterlogging in Quetta’s PB-45 Eastern Bypass

**Quetta:** Residents of PB-45 Eastern Bypass and surrounding areas in Quetta are facing severe hardship due to a malfunctioning sewerage system, which has resulted in widespread waterlogging, filth, and an unbearable stench.
Owing to the collapse of the drainage system, major roads and streets have turned into stagnant pools, severely disrupting daily life. Standing water on the main road in front of Streets No. 4, 5, and 6 along the Eastern Bypass now resembles a small lake, making movement for vehicles and pedestrians extremely difficult.
The accumulated water and foul smell have raised serious health concerns, with an increased risk of the spread of dengue, malaria, cholera, and other waterborne diseases. The business community has also been badly affected, as waterlogging in front of shops and commercial centers has led to a sharp decline in business activities and financial losses.
Local residents have expressed frustration over the authorities’ lack of seriousness despite repeated complaints. They have urged the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the Metropolitan Corporation, and WASA to take immediate action by deploying heavy machinery to drain the water, clean and repair sewerage lines, and carry out disinfectant spraying in the area to prevent the outbreak of epidemics.
Residents have warned that if urgent measures are not taken, they will be forced to launch strong protests, holding the administration fully responsible for the consequences.
