Severe Water Crisis in Bolan Forces Humans and Animals to Share Contaminated Ponds, Diseases Spread

**Bolan (Daily Qudrat Quetta):** A severe shortage of clean drinking water in **Bolan district of Balochistan** has made life extremely difficult for local residents. People from various areas, including **Balanari, Bhag, and Kathan**, are forced to travel long distances to fetch unsafe water from ponds and stagnant pools.
Tragically, the same contaminated water sources are being used by **both humans and animals**, leading to the spread of **lung, stomach, and skin diseases**, which have now taken the form of epidemics in several areas.
Public circles as well as political and local representatives said that the **Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department** had launched projects worth millions of rupees, but due to poor maintenance and neglect, these schemes have become non-functional. As a result, residents still do not have access to even a single drop of clean drinking water.
This year, **drought conditions and a lack of rainfall** have caused water levels in ponds and natural springs to fall to alarming levels, posing a serious threat to both human and livestock lives.
Local leaders have appealed to the **Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court** to take immediate notice of the water crisis in Bolan, restore inactive water supply schemes and filtration plants, introduce new and sustainable projects, and ensure the **immediate supply of water through tankers** to prevent loss of human lives.
They said that even in the **21st century**, the people of Bolan remain deprived of basic human rights and are still waiting for the attention of the state.
