UAE Announces Heavy Fines and Jail Terms for Sheltering or Employing Illegal Residents

Dubai: The United Arab Emirates has introduced strict penalties for individuals who provide accommodation, employment, or any form of assistance to people residing illegally in the country, as part of measures aimed at ensuring public safety.
According to *Gulf News*, the UAE government has warned that those who hire, shelter, or support illegal residents will face severe legal consequences. Authorities emphasize that undocumented foreigners may pose risks to public security and could be involved in unlawful activities; therefore, tougher regulations are essential to maintain social stability and protect citizens.
Under the UAE’s 2021 laws regarding the entry and residence of foreigners, violations carry penalties ranging from AED 100,000 to AED 5 million, along with a minimum jail term of two months.
The report further states that individuals on visit or tourist visas who engage in employment in the UAE commit a serious violation and may face a fine of AED 10,000. Additionally, those caught using forged residency documents may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
