Mach Jail’s Textile Factory to Be Restored After 15 Years; Agreement Reached with Private Firm, Prison Labor to Resume

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) — The textile factory at Balochistan’s Mach Jail, which was burned down 15 years ago, is set to be restored following an agreement between the Prison Department and a private organization. After the factory becomes operational, inmates sentenced to hard labor will once again be engaged in work at the facility.

According to officials of the Prison Department, the original textile unit was set ablaze in 2010 during riots by inmates, leaving prisoners sentenced to hard labor without work for years. To revive the facility, the Inspector General of Prisons has signed an MoU with a private firm for the restoration of the fabric-manufacturing unit.

Under the agreement, the factory will be re-established within Mach Jail with the support of the private partner, marking a significant step toward rehabilitating the prison’s labor system and utilizing the skills of inmates serving hard-labor sentences.
