Foreign Office Denies Knowledge of Reported Pakistan-Afghanistan Talks in Saudi Arabia

Islamabad: The Foreign Office has denied any knowledge of reported negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan taking place in Saudi Arabia.

According to FO spokesperson Tahir Andarabi, the ministry has seen media reports about alleged Pakistan-Afghanistan talks in Saudi Arabia but has no information regarding such discussions.

The spokesperson said Pakistan welcomes Türkiye’s offer to mediate between the two countries and would receive a Turkish mediation delegation warmly. He clarified that the delegation’s delayed visit is not due to any lack of cooperation from Pakistan, adding that Islamabad remains willing to engage in dialogue.

Regarding border closures, Andarabi stated that Pakistan has closed its borders with Afghanistan due to the current situation, while Afghanistan has also sealed its side. “They can better explain their own decision,” he said. Pakistan has temporarily opened crossings solely for humanitarian assistance.

Briefing on other diplomatic developments, the spokesperson said the President of Kyrgyzstan recently visited Pakistan, held delegation-level meetings with the Prime Minister, and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides also agreed to increase bilateral trade to $200 million by 2027–28.

During the visit, 15 MoUs were signed, and the Kyrgyz President addressed a business forum attended by more than 20 Kyrgyz companies and over 80 Pakistani businessmen. Andarabi added that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also held meetings with the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister and President. Additionally, Egypt’s Foreign Minister visited Pakistan, and Ishaq Dar inaugurated the Islamabad Conclave.
