Lahore High Court Quashes Death Sentences in Blasphemy Case, Orders Release of Four Accused

Rawalpindi – The Lahore High Court has delivered a landmark judgment in a high-profile blasphemy case, overturning the death sentences of four accused.

The Rawalpindi Division bench of the Lahore High Court heard the appeal of the four defendants – **Faizan Razaq, Usman Liaqat, Wazir Gul, and Amin Rais** – who were previously sentenced to death by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rawalpindi, in 2023. Along with the capital punishment, each accused had also been fined **Rs 100,000**.

The case, registered by the **FIA Cyber Crime Wing**, accused the defendants of uploading posts against sacred religious personalities.

The court, citing technical grounds, ordered the acquittal of all four accused and directed their immediate release, provided they are not detained in any other case. The judgment noted that forensic analysis of the mobile phones involved had not been conducted to establish ownership, emphasizing the necessity of thorough investigation on all technical aspects for a transparent trial.

The Lahore High Court’s decision has brought relief to the accused, who were being held at **Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi**.
