Egg Prices Skyrocket in Quetta — Farm Eggs Surpass Dollar, Euro, and Pound in Value

Quetta: As winter intensifies, **egg prices in Quetta have soared to record highs**, leaving citizens shocked and frustrated. The rising demand and short supply have pushed **farm egg prices** to new peaks — now being compared to the value of **foreign currencies** such as the **US dollar, Euro, and British pound**.

According to market sources, **fresh farm eggs** are being sold at **Rs470 per dozen** in Quetta, while **Punjab-supplied eggs** cost around **Rs430 per dozen**. This means a single Quetta egg now costs **Rs40**, while a Punjab egg sells for **Rs35** each. Traders confirm that these rates are **60 to 70 percent higher** than last year’s prices.

A carton (containing 240 eggs) from Punjab now sells for **Rs7,600**, while Quetta’s farm eggs reach **Rs8,500 per carton** — the **highest in Pakistan’s history**.

Meanwhile, **desi (organic) eggs** from Ziarat have become even more expensive, priced at **Rs600 per dozen** and up to **Rs50 per egg** in some markets. Shopkeepers cite **low supply and soaring demand** as the main causes behind the unprecedented surge.

Economists explain that during cold weather, **egg consumption naturally increases**, leading to supply shortages and price spikes. They also attribute the inflation to **higher poultry feed costs, increased transport fares, and rising electricity bills**.

Locals have reacted with humor and frustration, saying that “buying an egg in Quetta has become a luxury.” With the **US dollar trading at Rs281**, the **Euro at Rs332**, and the **British pound at Rs381**, residents note that “eggs are now more expensive than currencies.”

Citizens have urged the government and **price control committees** to take immediate action against **market manipulation and profiteering**, and to restore price stability before the situation worsens.
