Lakhra’s Guddri Canal Project Stalled; Millions Wasted Amid Officials-Contractor Collusion

Uthal: The Guddri Canal project in Lakhra, Lasbela, initiated with an investment of millions of rupees to promote irrigation and agriculture, has stalled due to mismanagement, negligence, and alleged collusion between irrigation department officials and the contractor. Years after its launch, the project remains incomplete, leaving local farmers in severe distress.
Originally intended to irrigate farmland and boost agricultural productivity, the project has reportedly been limited to paperwork, photo sessions, and social media promises. Local farmers allege that the contractor has continuously delayed work, while officials conduct site visits merely to take photos and make public assurances, with no real progress on the ground.
Community representatives say the prolonged delays and poor planning have negatively impacted crop production, placing farmers under financial strain. Landowners and public figures have appealed to Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to take immediate action, ensure the completion of the canal project, and hold responsible officials and contractors accountable.
They emphasized that timely completion of the Guddri Canal is crucial for irrigating farmland and revitalizing agriculture in the Lakhra region.
