Eggs Turn into Luxury in Quetta as Prices Soar to Rs450 per Dozen

Quetta: With the onset of winter, egg prices in the Balochistan capital have skyrocketed, turning this essential and protein-rich food item into a luxury for the poor and middle class.
In local markets, **domestic eggs are being sold at Rs450 per dozen**, while those imported from Punjab are priced at **Rs400 per dozen**. The **wholesale crate price** has surged to **Rs6,400**, marking a sharp rise compared to last month’s rates.
According to traders, the price hike is driven by **rising feed and transportation costs**, particularly the **increase in freight charges** for goods arriving from Punjab. They also cited **high winter demand** as a contributing factor behind the surge.
Citizens have urged the **Balochistan government** and **district administration** to take immediate measures to stabilize poultry product prices and **provide relief to consumers** during the cold season.
Meanwhile, the **Balochistan Food Authority** acknowledged that the increase in **transportation expenses** has made it difficult to bring prices down in the short term.
