President Zardari Stresses Institutional Reforms, Says Pakistan’s Future Tied to Strong Democracy

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized that institutional reforms are the need of the hour, stating that Pakistan’s bright future lies in a strong and stable democracy.

In his message on the occasion of *International Day of Democracy*, President Zardari said the day serves as a reminder of people’s political, economic, and social rights. He described democracy as a system that guarantees tolerance, inclusiveness, and freedom of expression.

Highlighting the significance of the 1973 Constitution, he called it Pakistan’s greatest democratic achievement, ensuring that institutions act as the guardians of the people’s voice. “Democracy empowers citizens and secures their participation, strengthened through the sacrifices of our leaders,” he said, adding that democracy is not merely a process but the protection of people’s rights.

The President reiterated that parliament remains the center of public voice and policymaking, stressing that democracy is the only path toward social justice, equality, and development.

He further underlined that rule of law and equality form the foundation of democracy. “Institutional reforms and strengthening of democracy are the need of the time. Pakistan’s bright future depends on a strong democratic system,” he said, while paying tribute to the struggles of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for laying the foundation of democracy in Pakistan.
