Sindh Declares Emergency Alert Amid Flood Threats, Says Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that flood threats cannot be ignored and an emergency alert has been declared across Sindh.

In a statement, the provincial information minister said that fluctuations in water flow continue in the rivers and barrages of Sindh and Punjab, and the Sindh government is closely monitoring the situation. Relevant departments remain on high alert, with low-level flooding reported at Guddu, Sukkur, Kotri, and Marala.

At Panjnad Barrage, the inflow and outflow have been recorded at 310,479 cusecs. Guddu Barrage registered an inflow of 359,570 cusecs and an outflow of 327,481 cusecs, while Sukkur Barrage recorded an inflow of 331,155 cusecs, showing a decreasing trend, with an outflow of 277,355 cusecs.

Memon said that evacuation from riverine areas is underway as a precaution. In the last 24 hours, 14,430 people have been shifted to safe locations, bringing the total number of evacuees to 109,320. Additionally, 346,282 livestock have been moved to safety, and more than 754,527 animals have been vaccinated.

He added that 169 medical camps have been set up for flood victims. In the past 24 hours, 6,890 people received medical assistance, raising the total to 27,801 beneficiaries.

Despite the declining water flow, Memon stressed that flood risks remain significant. He assured that the Sindh government has taken all protective measures and remains in constant coordination with Punjab authorities to tackle any emergency jointly.
