Early Signs of Lung Cancer May Appear in the Legs and Feet, Experts Warn

Islamabad: The early symptoms of lung cancer are not limited to breathing difficulties, persistent cough, or chest pain — they may also manifest in other parts of the body, particularly the **legs and feet**, medical experts have cautioned.
According to specialists, **swelling, pain, discoloration, tingling, or muscle weakness** in the legs or feet can sometimes be early indicators of lung cancer. Swelling occurs when **fluid accumulates in body tissues**, which may signal problems in blood vessels or lymphatic drainage.
Experts note that **pain, warmth, or redness in one leg** could indicate **blood clot formation (deep vein thrombosis)** — a condition frequently observed in lung cancer patients. Changes in **skin color**, such as **paleness, bluish or reddish tones**, may suggest **poor blood circulation or oxygen deficiency** in the body.
Some patients undergoing or recovering from **chemotherapy** also report **tingling, burning sensations, or difficulty walking**, symptoms linked to the effects of treatment on the **nervous system**. In a few cases, **changes in toenail shape or texture** have been noted, which can result from **chronic oxygen deficiency** or underlying **lung disease**.
Doctors advise that anyone experiencing **persistent swelling, pain, or discoloration in the legs or feet** should seek **immediate medical consultation**. Early detection, they stress, can significantly **improve treatment outcomes and survival chances**.
