Leaders in Panjgur Demand Immediate Action to Restore Law and Order Amid Rising Crime and Corruption

Panjgur, Balochistan:A large gathering of political leaders and activists in Panjgur has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the region. Addressing the public meeting, various leaders, including Shakil Ahmed Qamberani, Convenor of the Civil Society of Panjgur, Haji Iftikhar Baloch from the Balochistan National Party (BNP) Awami, Haji Abdul Aziz Baloch from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and other prominent figures, expressed their alarm over the growing instability and lawlessness that has plagued Panjgur.
The leaders stressed that peace and security play a pivotal role in any society, and without these, life becomes unlivable. They shared their concerns that, in recent times, the people of Panjgur are forced to bear the tragic burden of daily funerals, as incidents of theft, dacoity, and extortion are rampant. The speakers further pointed out that unless the responsible parties are identified and held accountable, restoring peace in Panjgur will remain an impossible task.
Particularly alarming is the situation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) road, where armed groups have taken control and are extorting money from every vehicle passing through. The participants raised questions about who is backing these armed groups, as millions of rupees are being collected daily, further aggravating the security situation.
The leaders also criticized the controversial “package system” imposed at the border, where influential figures are exploiting the situation for personal gains. Many locals have been waiting for months to secure their trips, while powerful individuals continue to make multiple trips daily. This corrupt system, the leaders argued, is exacerbating the security crisis in Panjgur and the surrounding areas.
In addition to the security challenges, the recent raid on the home of senior political leader Rajee Raahishon Wajeh Mir Asadullah Baloch was highlighted as a stark example of the ongoing lawlessness. Leaders pointed out that Asadullah Baloch has dedicated his life to the service of the Baloch people and has always fought for the rights of the oppressed. They condemned the raid as an affront to democracy and emphasized that it was an attack on the very fabric of the community. The attack on Asadullah Baloch’s residence, they argued, reflects the dire state of law and order in the region, where no one, not even respected leaders, are safe.
The gathering made several demands to address the security concerns, including:
1. **Immediate action to end extortion on the CPEC road** and hold the responsible armed groups accountable.
2. **Termination of the package system at the border**, which has been creating unnecessary hardships for the people.
3. **Pressuring the authorities** to ensure the restoration of peace in Panjgur by holding the responsible individuals and groups accountable, especially those from political factions with ties to the government.
4. **Increased actions by district administration** to combat theft, dacoity, and other crimes.
5. **Ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property**, and safeguarding the sanctity of their homes.
6. **A crackdown on drug trafficking** within Panjgur and its surrounding areas.
7. **The immediate transfer of the District Police Officer (DPO)**, to ensure better law enforcement in the region.
The participants of the grand meeting concluded by stressing that for the sake of the future of Panjgur and its people, immediate and decisive action is necessary to restore law and order and ensure the safety of all residents.
