Balochistan Sees Major Health Reforms: 4,500 Promotions and Appointments in 11 Months, PMA Expresses

*Quetta:* The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan has lauded the provincial government’s health sector reforms, highlighting significant progress in public health, staff promotions, and appointments during 2025. PMA Balochistan President, Dr. Aftab Hussain Kakr, described the reforms as a “scientific and pragmatic achievement” aligned with global standards of collaboration and coordination.

Dr. Kakr stated that in just 11 months, 1,519 doctors and over 3,000 paramedical staff received promotions, while 625 doctors and nurses, along with 1,637 allied health professionals, were promptly appointed across Balochistan. He emphasized that decentralizing the recruitment process to district levels expedited these appointments.

Key initiatives include the establishment of a 150-bed trauma center in Quetta’s Spin Road meeting WHO standards, strengthening emergency response; significant increases in children receiving complete immunizations under the Health Immunization Coverage Survey (HICS); and the implementation of the Medicine Inventory Management System (MIMS), ensuring digital monitoring of hospital pharmacies.

In addition, 164 Basic Health Units (BHUs) were rehabilitated, and 148 labor rooms established within three months. Bolan Medical College hostels for 1,500 students underwent comprehensive renovation, introducing biometric access, merit-based online allotments, improved campus security, and elimination of illegal accommodations.

Dr. Kakr highlighted the historic passage of seven key health laws in 2025, including the Balochistan Health Institutions Reforms Act and the Maternal & Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response Act.

The PMA praised these achievements as reflecting strategic, scientific, and consultative governance and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Balochistan’s health system through technical guidance and professional expertise.
